Air Sealing: Ensuring Your Home’s Efficiency with Bob Cook Homes

Most homes built to Code leak all the air out of them 5-7 times an hour. All of it. It could be more, could be less—in Kansas there is zero requirement to check at any point. We check. Using thermal cameras, blower-door tests, Aerobarrier (an innovative air-sealing technology), specialty tapes, glues, and foams our homes routinely come in at .5 air exchanges an hour. The house is physically sealed 3 times to the foundation. The windows are liquid-flashed in, leaving zero room for tape failure and the leaks that follow. The attic is sealed before insulation is installed. Every single wire, pipe and joint is permanently sealed. As a standard feature, all of our houses have an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) installed to bring fresh air into the house in a filtered, controlled manner. It takes a little bit of time and effort while building to make sure these details are done correctly, but it makes a world of difference in terms of comfort.
